Most adults should have an annual skin check. If you have a history of skin cancer, a family history of melanoma, fair skin, or are frequently outdoors, your GP may recommend checks every 6 months. When in doubt, book one — it only takes 20 minutes and could save your life.

Wear loose, comfortable clothing that's easy to remove. A gown will be provided. The doctor will examine all areas of your body, including your back, scalp, and between your toes — areas that are often missed.
Your GP will discuss findings with you immediately. Options may include monitoring (re-checking at a follow-up), taking a biopsy (a small tissue sample for lab testing), or referral to a dermatologist or skin surgeon for specialist care. You'll always be fully informed before any decision.
