The Process

What Happens at Your Skin Check

Our GPs take a thorough, professional approach to skin cancer screening — in a comfortable, private setting.

1

Medical history review

Your GP asks about your skin history, sun exposure, family history of skin cancer, and any changes or concerns you've noticed.

2

Full body skin examination

A thorough head-to-toe examination of your skin in a private room. A gown is provided. Your privacy and comfort are our priority.

3

Dermatoscopy of suspicious spots

Suspicious moles or lesions are examined up-close with a dermatoscope — a handheld illuminated magnifier — for a detailed assessment.

4

Discussion of findings

Your doctor explains any findings and recommends next steps — whether that's a routine recall, a biopsy, or referral to a dermatologist.

Are You at Risk?

Who Should Book a Skin Check

While everyone benefits from regular skin checks, you are at higher risk if you:

☀️
Work or spend time outdoors

Tradies, farmers, outdoor workers and sports people face elevated UV exposure.

👶
Had childhood sunburns

Blistering sunburns in childhood significantly increase lifetime skin cancer risk.

👴
Are over 40

Skin cancer risk increases with age. Regular checks are especially important from 40 onwards.

🧬
Have a family history

A first-degree relative with melanoma puts you at significantly higher risk.

🌡️
Have fair skin, light hair or freckles

Lighter skin types produce less melanin and offer less natural UV protection.

🔵
Notice a change in a mole or spot

Any change in size, shape, colour or a new spot that bleeds or itches warrants immediate review.
